History
The club was formed on March 13, 1949 by charter from Kiwanis International with the Kiwanis Club of Little Rock (Downtown) serving as the local sponsor. Many distinguished and dedicated community leaders have served in the club over the years. The service projects carried out by the club have been varied and numerous over its 50+ year history. All such projects have benefited our community and had a great impact on the quality of life in the greater Little Rock area. For instance, up until 1957, there was no hospital north of the river. Our club members, Clyde Brown and Dr. W. E. Phipps, took the lead in starting a drive to get one. Charles G. Ball was President then and a kickoff luncheon was held 1-21-57 to get the leaders of the community and the city behind it. Thus Memorial Hospital was built.
Originally, our club was all male but since 1988, business and professional people of both sexes have been members.
